Story: When Abby went for her second surgery the technician who runs the MRI-based surgery guidance system applied a fiducial to just behind my ear at the same time he was prepping Abby for surgery. Abby asked me to wear it until she got out of the hospital, and so I honored her request, retaining it for four days. Our favorite experience surrounding this was when Dr. Shafron came out of surgery to give us his post-op report--he was giving us all the details of the surgery when suddenly he stopped and stared behind my ear, then said incredulously "Do you know you have a fiducial stuck behind your right ear?" It was a great tension-breaking moment for us. That spot itched for a good 4 or 5 days after I took the fiducial off.
